Hi, I've been playing with alcohol inks again today.
I diecut an ornament base out of metal sheet and ran it through my cuttlebug with an embossing folder. I love the texture. I've used the same folder on the base card.
Instead of pouncing the ink on with a blending tool, I poured it on and moved the base around.
I painted the top with a layer of glossy accents so the ink doesn't scratch off.
I diecut another base from snippets of black card and glued it onto the back so that when you hang these on the tree you won't see the messy back. I've secured the ornaments to the card with foam dots and double sided tape which should be easy enough for the recipient to remove.
Here's another pic, it's tricky getting the light right!
I'm linking up to the holiday challenge at Addicted to Stamps & More.
Snippets means I can visit the playground at Pixie's Crafty Workshop.
At Cuttlebug Mania the theme is anything diecut with a manual machine like a big shot or a cuttlebug.
Supplies:
Memory Box Brittany ornament die and Sizzix swirls & waves embossing folder;
Alcohol ink; glossy accents: silver cord; sentiment sticker.
Thanks for visiting,
Cathy x

Oh Cathy, this is marvelous & the inks made the ornaments so sparkly. TFS the pouring idea. I've only pounced. Loved your idea to make these gorgeous ornaments into tree trims. They were stunning on the white embossed background. Well done on being a Highlighted Snippeteer! TFS

Beautiful card - the baubles are gorgeous. Elizabeth xx
Your card is wonderful. Love the combination of the embossed metal and the use of the alcohol inks. The ornaments have a stain glass look.
I did this exact process this Christmas. It was not part of my card but I laid one inside of each card. I received so many complements.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing
Maybe you could glue two together so they look the same from front or back to hang on a tree.
These are so gorgeous! I thought they were earrings also, so maybe using them for earrings and a necklace combo would be a great gift! I have never played with alcohol inks but these are stunning!
3 years later I'm seeing your 2014 tutorial for the first time. First 2 things that came to mind are - making a pin out of the ornament OR die cutting individual letters for Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday or whatever and then using alcohol ink on the letters.
Ah-ha - "Roberta's" comment about gluing 2 together so it's pretty on both sides - that's a great idea.
Whoo-hoo

VERY beautiful - thanks for sharing - curious - what gauge was the thickness? of the metal? like a sheet of copper?
Hi Nark, The sheets of metal I used are adhesive backed metal sheets by QuicKutz. I bought them at a Spotlight store in Australia a few years ago on a clearance sale. Lifestyle Crafts also make some sheets that are not adhesive backed, need glossy accents to glue these ones though. Hope that helps, Cathy x
You can save some $$ by folding some heavy duty aluminum wrap over a few times and running it through an embossing folder on a Big Shot, Cuttlebug, etc...
