Colourful alcohol inks & gilding flakes.

Hi everyone, I spent a day playing with alcohol inks and yupo. I really wanted to get some gold veining but the gold mixative doesn't move around very well.

I watched a video that Jane from Janey's cards had done where she added foil to the tacky alcohol ink. Her piece looked amazing.
I don't have sheets of foil but I thought I'd try gilding flakes. Bit messy but it sort of worked! I used a lot of colours as it was an experiment but I hate wasting things so decided to diecut some flowers. I should've taken the pic before I cut it up!

The dull gold is the mixative and the shiny gold is the gilding flakes. (I'm going to buy some foil as I think it will look better and no need to scratch off the excess.)

I've inlaid one of the flowers so the other one can lay flush across it.

There's a few challenges I'm linking up to:

At Simon Says Stamp Wednesday, it's anything goes.

Simon Wednesday Challenge Blog Logo

At Work it Wednesday the theme is to use an inking technique.

AAA Cards wants us to use a favourite technique. Hard to pick one favourite but diecutting is up there.

At Just Us Girls, it's a clean and simple theme.

Outside the Box  has a floral challenge. I've used a Memory Box die, Chloe Stem.

Fabulous card Cathy! In the space of five minutes I've come across both you and Darnell playing with Yupo and alcohol inks, added to which, I spent yesterday having a first play with both those products as well! Such fun - and I love your idea of die cutting the Chloe flowers rather than just using the piece as backgrounds (as I did). Ha, I have also been watching a good few videos whilst I wait for gold and silver mixatives to be delivered along with rubbing alcohol. From what I've seen - a drop or two of the rubbing alcohol straight onto a dot of the mixative on your work is helpful. Mind you, they always make it look so flipping easy! I have gilding flakes at the ready as a fall back - clever you!

Glorious colours of those fabulous alcohol inks. Great layout and beautiful CAS card. Yes I find the same with the gold mixative but I love the Pinata gold, it really is second to none and is a magnificent gold....if that helps? Love the idea of the gold foil and or the flakes x

Cathy, what fun you must have had playing with the AI. Going for the gilding flakes to bump up your metallic was a fantastic idea. Love those blooms.

Cathy love how you used your alcohol inks and the gold flakes look brilliant to me. That flower die that I happen to have looks amazing cut from yupo, like Di I need to try this instead of just the backgrounds. Fabulous look. I am so obsessed that of course I end up looking and seeing all that left over and thinking mmmm how could she use that????

You rocked with your colour choices and your card design.

It seems like a lot of us are playing with our alcoholic inks and Yupo right now. I think what you achieved is magnificent, Cathy! You encourage me to venture out after my first outing with just three simple colors! That golds add a ton to the finished result and I love the Chloe flowers cut from it!! ❤️Hugs, Darnell

Hi Cathy, a beautiful mix of colours on your yupo paper, love the gold flakes you added, I haven't seen alcohol inks yet, which is probably best for my bank balance. Hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend... Have a wonderful week... Megan

Cathy this is simply STUNNING, I have some yuppo sheets all inked up and ready to go in my box also. Thank you for showing us the sheet that your die was cut from as my yuppo looks similar so I must have done it right:) I will have to look at the you link.

I can imagine the 'fun' you got using gilding flakes here. Love the result you got with all the mediums used Cathy. Gorgeous bright colours and great CAS card. I have only recently bought some Alcohol Inks and going to purchase a sheet of yupo paper from an art store close by. Cheaper than the craft shops by far.
