Hi everyone, it was about a year ago that I last played with rusting powder.
I had to look up my post from then to see how I'd done it lol!
I tore a piece of cardboard to reveal some of the corrugations, painted it with white gesso, then sprayed on antique bronze distress stain. When that was dry, I painted on some collage glue, sprinkled on the rusting powder, tapped off the excess and sprayed with white vinegar to watch the magic begin!
These colours remind me of the bark on spotted gum eucalypts that we have growing here. The bark sheds every year, so it's like a new beginning, and that's the theme at Less is More this week.
I hope my card is CAS enough to play along.
At Simon Says Stamp Monday the theme is spread your wings.
I've gone with butterflies, coloured with Inktense pencils.
At Simon Says Stamp Wednesday, it's anything goes.( I'm having trouble copying and pasting the badges for SSS!)
At Inkspirational the theme is flutter.
At Seize the Birthday there's an option of dashes or doodling, I've gone with anything goes.
Supplies:
Hero Arts Antique Engravings butterfly stamp; versafine ink & clear ep; Antique bronze distress stain; rusting powder; sentiment sticker; Inktense pencils.
Thanks for visiting,
Cathy x

A beautiful card Cathy and love your interpretation of New Beginnings. Superbly CAS yet with a stunning amount of detail and dimension. thanks for playing along at Less is More this week. Sarah
I absolutely love this card. The combination of mixed media and CAS is so appealing, and to see "canvas" techniques on a card is really inspiring. The butterflies are gorgeous and I love the overall effect. Thanks so much for playing along with us at Less is More :)
This is gorgeous, Cathy. The corrugated panel looks amazing and your butterflies are beautifully coloured. Rusting powder is new to me! Hope you have a great weekend.
This looks so fantastic!I've seen some 'rusting videos', but nothing that looked this pretty! Don't have any rusting powder, what shall I look for? This truly does look like the lovely butterflies are just resting on old rusty surface, and is so rustic, yet at the same time, so verey lovely! TFS & Hugs.
This is stunning! What an amazing background you've created!
What a cool effect on the background panel, Cathy ... so much fabulous interest and texture ... those delicate butterflies are gorgeous against it! Hugs, Anita :)
Cathy, wonderful card. Love how you made the background panel, very very clever. Looks amazing especially with those pretty butterflies on it.
This is such a cool technique. LOVE the rustic background with your gorgeous butterflies. I"m now adding antique bronze distress stain and rusting powder to my wish list. :) xx
This is such a cool card. I had not heard of rusting powders before this post. i love the finished look of this!
wonderful texture Cathy and stunning technique, thanks for joining Ink
I remember you using this last year and answering me on how to use it. This is another stunning work of art with rusting powder. The soft butterflies complete the look and I love the corrugated background.
Wow, this is so effective, what a wonderful background and great idea for our challenge. Mixed media scares me and I wouldn't have a clue where to start with half the stash you mentioned above! Fab work.
Thanks so much for sharing with us at Less is More, Anita x
