Alcohol Ink Butterfly

Hi, I'm scraping in to the challenge at Scrapbook Boutique which closes in a couple of hours.
Here is the fabulous inspiration pic.
Enter Our Challenge - starts 10th each month

I love chocolate, and I'm loving alcohol inks at the moment.

I saw this card on pinterest today at Flower Shoppe Cards and had to take a closer look.
So many fabulous cards using alcohol inks and one of my other loves, Memory Box dies!

It was my first time "pouncing" on glossy cardstock and I wasn't overly impressed with my results.
I googled some info on the technique and followed it the best I could but wasn't really happy with the colours ( I don't have many, think this will be remedied soon!)
However, once I diecut the butterfly, I was happier with the end result. I used cranberry, pebble and butterscotch.
I pounced with blending solution after inking up the cardstock. I just love the marbled effect.

I'm also linking up to the anything goes challenge at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge,
which has an anything goes theme this week.

The theme at Addicted to Stamps & More is also anything goes.

Materials used:
Memory Box  Darla Butterfly die; MFT Fancy Flourish die; alcohol inks; sentiment sticker and bling from stash.

Thanks for visiting,
Cathy x

  1. Thanks for visiting my blog! I think you inspired quiet easily! Lovely!!! It is awesome to try different blends of color. Generally, I find myself using similar color tones, but then I'll be risky and try blues and yellows together and surprise! Another thing I like doing is different motions with the tool with felt. I like to pounce down and then give it a little twist, lift it up, then down again and twist all over the page. I also found I like to look of leaving little white spaces in between the ink. One final thing is that I put the blending solution on initially with the inks. Then when the colors start drying on the felt I add a few more squirts of solution and I get lovely muted colors. Have fun, fun, fun. Hope you don't mind me sharing some of the things I enjoy doing with this technique!!!

  9. Cathy , beautiful card. Love the colours in your butterfly. I love doing alcohol inks on glossy card stock. I have done tons and can say even when they dont look real eye catching cut a shape and you will love it. I found adding bits of gold or silver added to the look. I made so many my Tim Holtz craft mat looks permanently inky in the middle. Would say I can show you but I dont post my cards, my blog is for special needs. Keep at it they are so pretty.

  14. Looks terrific to me, Cathy, and you chose a wonderful die to use your alcohol piece. (I've colored an inexpensive lamp with alcohol inks too). They also work on the metal of a soda can - the aluminum side. Love the color ways you picked for the technique, and these colors were lovely against your chocolate background. Oh, did it look rich & yummy. Great card, as always. TFS & thanks for the link. I'll have to check that out.
